There is nothing that can prepare you for the overwhelming work of Gaudi. His cathedral, scheduled to be completed in 2026 is a masterpiece. He was not only a genius but a humble man.He lived in a small simple room near the town center. He died after being struck by a tram late at night. Although he was renowned for his architecture, having been mistaken for a homeless person because of his appearance he died four days later in a public hospital for the poor. The city of Barcelona turned out by the thousands to say their prayers for his soul. If one takes a look at his work there is overwhelming evidence that he deeply respected the earth and sky. His innovations for recycling stones, glass, water and soil into his buildings are beyond what anyone then or today could imagine. A common issue with his commissions was that his clients were offended by his wanting to use such common recycled building materials in his architecture. His cathedral has been a combined effort of designers from around the world, each taking on one aspect of the building to finish Gaudi’s master plan.
This is a most moving and powerful experience.

There seems to be an architect theme in the travels of our members this year. Joe and Bob sent pictures of Gaudi's work in Barcelona, Spain.
