Good Samaritan Fund
Christ Trinity Church has begun to assist the Good Samaritan Fund with administrative help. The Church office 229-8811 will take calls from local people in temporary financial difficulty and refer those calls to the administrators of the fund. Old Parish Church 229-8173 continues to be another way to reach out to the fund.
The GSF had been administered by Our Lady of the Valley Parish until November 2012, when its assets were transferred to Old Parish Church, so that the Fund could operate under the parish’s tax-free number.
In the four years since then, the fund has helped 65 local persons encountering such difficulties as rent arrears, a fuel bill or a gas card to get to a job interview. Payments are restricted per person and checks are always sent directly to the creditor.
While the fund has benefited from such fund raisers as the Four Hands Piano concert or the Woods Tea Company in the past, presently the principal monies come largely from the annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration, plus generous donations from Old Parish Church and Christ Trinity Church. It typically receives many small donations from a variety of folks, be it people who have been helped in the past or the veterans at Berkshire Rehab in Sandisfield. May it remain a sign of light in our troubled world! Deacon Dick Magenis and Marcia Brolli oversee the fund.
